FOREWORD

This is your Memory Book. We have tried to record in pictures some of
the highlights of our school year, with the teachers, the students, the athletic
events and the organizations.

Of course, there were many things we could not picture (much as we would
have liked to) such as the school spirit, and the indefinable feeling we have
when we sing our school song.

But it is with hope that its pages will bring back memories of the happy
hours spent in Brookneal High School, that we submit to you your Memoriae
Gratae of 1949.

MR. AND MRS. R. G. GARDNER

To Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Gardner, for their fine cooperation and the inspi¬
ration they have been to us, this 1949 edition of Memoriae Gratae is dedicated.

Mrs. Gardner has shown a sincere and helpful interest in all our activities ,
always being ready with ideas and suggestions which we have found most
valuable in our work and play.

Mr. Gardner’s wise guidance, his patience with us in any trying situation
and his enthusiasm in all our successes, has inspired us always to strive for
improvement and advancement.

For their valuable aid in bringing us to a successful culmination of our
high school training, their memories shall always be enshrined in our hearts.
